The Murgon Running Festival (MRF)

Set in the stunning surrounds of the South Burnett region and taking place over the October long weekend, the MRF is incorporated into the Murgon Rail Trail Festival (superceding the South Burnett and Cherbourg show) and offers events for walkers and runners of 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon.

Taking place over the Labor Day public holiday on Sunday, September 30th, the route takes participants along the Kingaroy to Kilkivan Rail Trail, along out and back routes starting at the Murgon trail head. The section has a bitumen cover and offers a superb running surface for both running and walking while retaining the benefits of a typical trail environment. It's flat by no means and will be very fast for some while others can simply take their time and soak up the atmosphere.

The 5, 10, half marathon and full marathon events will be head out to their relative halfway points with a single turn before heading back to the finish. The same applies to the 3km children's run.

There's plenty of accommodation in the area, but it's recommended that you book soon if your plan is to stay overnight for the race weekend. Lots of options and information here along with plenty of background on Murgon and the surrounding area:
